Alternative Investments Association

Alternative Investments Association - 1: The CAIA Association
The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation (CAIA)

In 1999, under the guidance of The Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets (CISDM) and the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), committed industry leaders undertook the task of creating a professional designation exclusively for alternative investment specialists.

The result of their efforts is the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation, or CAIA - the AI industry's first and only specialized educational standard.

The CAIA Association was established with the belief that a strong foundation of knowledge specific to alternative investments is essential for all AI professionals.

Other programs do not address the unique attributes associated with alternative assets, but focus primarily on traditional investments.

Given the area's explosive inflow of investable capital, it is now more imperative than ever that AI participants set themselves apart from the broader investment industry.

Earning the CAIA designation demonstrates an individual's commitment to the profession and comprehension of its unique fundamentals.

The CAIA Association and the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Program are in no way affiliated with, sponsored by, or related to the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation, administered by the CFA Institute.

It is the mission of the CAIA Association to:

*Provide members with a comprehensive knowledge of alternative investments

*Advocate high standards of professional conduct

*Establish the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation as the educational standard for the alternative investment industry

*Promote professional development through ongoing education

*Facilitate communication among industry professionals

Alternative Investments Association - 2: AIMA

Founded in 1990, AIMA is the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to representing the world’s alternative investment community. Addressing the real issues effecting the industry’s development, the Association provides a centre of knowledge for professional investment practitioners.

Spanning 47 countries on five continents, AIMA’s corporate members enable the Association to create global tools for the benefit of its members, institutional investors and regulators.

Objectives

*to provide an interactive and professional forum for our membership and act as a catalyst for the industry’s future development

*to be the pre-eminent voice of the industry to the wider financial community, institutional investors, the media, regulators, governments and other policy makers

*to offer a centralised source of information on the industry’s activities and influence, and to secure its place in the investment management community.

The structure of the Association allows members the opportunity to shape the industry.

The Council, democratically elected every two years, governs strategy.

Specialist Committees, renewed each year, comprise members from around the world. These Committees drive development of specific projects relating to sound practices, education and research, educational events and the industry’s methods of communication with investors, regulators and the financial media.

Members in 47 countries on five continents work together on national issues – such as regulation.

The AIMA team in London co-ordinates activities throughout the world.
